Abstract

Science and art are often treated as separate intellectual traditions, yet they share deep cognitive foundations — observation, pattern recognition, and iterative refinement — and have strengthened one another throughout history. Art provides a sensory bridge that makes the invisible phenomena of science tangible, while scientific advancement continually expands the creative palette available to artists through new materials, tools, and technologies. In a professional landscape that tends to silo expertise, individuals who can navigate both the empirical and the expressive — polymaths, in the classical sense — are uniquely positioned to drive innovation.

This panel is composed of five UTC practitioners of science and art whose presentations explore the intersection of science and art from diverse disciplinary perspectives.

The session will conclude with audience Q&A and, time permitting, a forward-looking discussion with a goal of establishing a recurring Science and Art event at UTC.

Science and Art Panel: Moderator's Introduction
