Abstract

This Honors thesis sets out to examine some significant aspects of corporate trademark design. The thesis will provide an analysis of a corporate trademark program, focusing on the recent trademark change by The Krystal Company. I wish to point out early in the paper that certain features of Krystal's design program, such as uniform, package, and architectural design were reviewed only briefly. This restriction was necessary to keep the research from becoming too vast and losing sight of the main objective of trademark design. The thesis consists of three main parts: a) The principles of design and graphic design, b) the history of the Krystal Company, and c) a critical analysis of the present Krystal trademark. Included in the first section of research is a general study of the application of design and graphic design principles and theories to trademark problems. The second stage of research, concerning the study of Krystal's history, makes reference to Krystal's past graphic programs in an attempt to gain insight into decisions concerning its present trademark. The concluding phase of research is a critical analysis of the current trademark based on the research presented in earlier sections.
