Abstract

This paper investigates the effects of DBAE on the museum/school relationship. The relationship between schools and museums was determined on a national level by contrasting museums that have been exposed to the theories of DBAE through their affiliation with the Getty Center for Education in the Arts (here after referred to as the Getty Institute for Education in the Arts or GIEA) and museums that are not affiliated with the GIEA. A similar study was conducted on a local level by contrasting the actions and attitudes of Chattanooga area art educators who have received training from the GIEA grant funded Southeastern Institute for Education in the Visual Arts (SIEVA) and teachers who have not participated in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga SIEV A two week summer institute. In examining current art education trends on the national and local level, this paper will explain the benefits of DBAE to the formation of a successful museum/school relationship.
