Abstract
The present study at the Lula Lake Land Trust centered on making a detailed and comprehensive list of the vascular flora contained within its boundaries. The collection of specimens began in May 1995 and extended through July 1996, for a total of fourteen months. The field work resulted in 412 specimens, comprising 79 families, 178 genera, and 252 species. The Lula Lake Land Trust is a non-profit, privately owned entity dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the Lula Lake area. It is in an alliance with The Nature Conservancy of Georgia, the Tennessee Aquarium, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. It's a diverse property offering sanctuary for the federally threatened plant Spiraea virginiana, as well as many plants typical of the southern highlands of the Cumberland Plateau. This study is the first detailed botanical baseline study of this beautiful area and will be the first of many centering on its floral, faunal, and historical diversity.
